Inventory Management: Assets, Models and Audit

Asset modeling in NetZoom starts with the NetZoom Device Library. The NetZoom Device Library is populated with the manufacturer default models of equipment shapes with the manufacturer’s specifications. The NetZoom Device Library is used to build your own library of customized Device Models to match your real-life data center. These models are used throughout the data center to create your asset Inventory in NetZoom.

  • Device Models are used to create representations of owned assets. There are three categories of device models:
  • Basic Models are devices that do not require further configuration. This includes cards, modules, hard drives, power supplies, network cards, ports/sockets used in configurable patch panels, cables, etc. Basic Models do not require an Asset ID when being approved as an inventory item.
  • Configured Models are complete device models that are configured using basic and other configured models. This includes blades, chassis and rack-mountable devices like servers and switches. Connectivity internal to the model can also be added. Configured Models require an Asset ID when being approved as an inventory item.
  • SmartBuilds are advanced configurations of one or more configured devices within racks and blade servers. SmartBuilds can be empty or configured. Generally, these configurations include pre-populated racks and enclosures. Connectivity internal to the build can also be added. Examples are racks preconfigured with patch panels and PDUs or enclosures preconfigured with specific blade servers. SmartBuilds require an Asset ID when approving as an inventory item.

Inventory is created using device models to represent a specific asset in the data center. An asset in inventory is a unique instance of a device model.

The Inventory menu includes features that allow the user to create device models using the NetZoom Device Library, add connectivity to device models, add device models to inventory and manage device models and inventory by Project.
